What types of jobs and employers are covered under the Equal Pay Act?

The EPA applies to most jobs and employers in the United States. Specifically:

Employers: The law covers employers who are subject to the Fair Labor Standards Act, which includes most private employers, public employers, and government entities.

This includes businesses engaged in interstate commerce or production of goods for commerce, as well as schools, hospitals, and other institutions.

Jobs: The Act applies to all employees who work within the same establishment.

Jobs don’t need to have identical titles but must be “substantially equal” in terms of skill, effort, responsibility, and working conditions.
