A hostile work environment built on race, gender, religion, disability, or another protected characteristic is not just morally wrong. Michigan's Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act and federal law under Title VII both recognize that sustained harassment severe enough to alter the conditions of employment gives rise to employer liability.
