Michigan city scape in grey
Marko Law Firm

Do I need to report to law enforcement to be protected under the WPA?

Not necessarily. That’s the beauty of the WPA—you don’t have to go straight to the police or a government agency to be protected. Reporting illegal activity to a supervisor or someone within your organization can qualify, as long as the report is in good faith and concerns a violation of law or regulation. That said, reporting to a public body (like the police, Attorney General, or even the media in some cases) often makes your claim even stronger. If you're unsure how or where to report misconduct, call us first. We can walk you through the process and make sure your rights are protected from the very beginning
