Detroit Resources
Free help understanding forms and procedures at Detroit's district court, which handles traffic tickets, misdemeanors, small claims, landlord-tenant cases and civil suits up to $25,000.
The 36th District Court is Detroit's city court and one of the busiest in Michigan. Its Legal Self-Help Center on the second floor has public computers and trained navigators for people without a lawyer.
A crash often comes with a traffic ticket, and smaller injury or property claims are filed here. Understanding the deadline on your notice can protect your license and your case.
The court never texts people to demand payment, so treat such messages as scams. On the first Thursday of each month navigator services start at 11:00 am.
Staff explain legal information and point you to forms but cannot give legal advice or represent you.
