Detroit Resources
Free 24/7 crisis line, medical-forensic exams, counseling and advocacy for survivors of sexual assault and human trafficking of all ages and genders.
If someone is in immediate danger, call 911.
Avalon Healing Center is Detroit's sexual assault response and healing center. Nurses and advocates respond around the clock at partner hospitals and at the Bagley Street headquarters, and the center offers counseling, a wellness clinic and legal advocacy.
After a sexual assault, people often do not know whether to go to a hospital, the police or no one. Avalon lets you get medical care and evidence collection, free of charge, without deciding about police involvement first.
Call 313-474-SAFE and press 1 for the medical team after a recent assault or 2 for an on-call advocate. Exams are free and available within 120 hours of an assault, but counseling and advocacy are available no matter how long ago it happened.
Open to anyone regardless of where they live or where the assault happened; children under 12 are referred to Kids-TALK for counseling.
