Detroit Resources
Emergency shelter, housing help and long-term coaching for Detroit families facing homelessness. Entry is through the city's CAM line, which also covers other Detroit shelters.
COTS has sheltered and housed Detroit families since 1982. Beyond a bed, its Passport to Self-Sufficiency program pairs parents with a coach for several years to work toward stable housing, income and health.
Losing housing after an injury or a legal crisis is frightening, especially with children. COTS is built for families and connects shelter with longer-term support rather than a short stay alone.
Start with CAM at (313) 305-0311 or one of the walk-in access points; the CAM worker decides where a bed is open that day. Veterans have a separate access point at the Detroit VA. Beds change daily, so call early.
COTS focuses on families with children facing or experiencing homelessness in Detroit; shelter space is limited and assigned through CAM, not by walking into the COTS office.
