Detroit Resources
Nonprofit law firm that helps Detroiters with driver's license restoration, clearing warrants, expungement, fines and fees, child support debt, custody orders, eviction defense and property tax appeals, through referral partners.
The Detroit Justice Center is a nonprofit law firm in Detroit's LOVE Building that pairs direct legal services with policy and organizing work. Its attorneys focus on the legal barriers that keep people in poverty, such as suspended licenses, old warrants, court debt and child support arrears.
A suspended license or an old warrant can cost someone a job or lead to an arrest during a routine stop. DJC works on exactly these problems, which many other legal aid offices do not cover.
DJC is appointment only and gets its clients through partner organizations rather than walk-ins. Call or email to ask which partners refer for your type of issue, and expect to be screened before any appointment.
Takes legal clients only through its referral partners and cannot currently help with felony matters, federal matters, cases outside Michigan, or violent or assault misdemeanors.
