Detroit Resources
Free, confidential counseling, advocacy, safety planning and help with victim compensation claims for people affected by sexual assault, domestic violence or homicide in Detroit.
If someone is in immediate danger, call 911.
The Detroit Police Victim's Assistance Program is a civilian counseling and advocacy unit housed with the police department. Staff respond to sexual assaults reported to DPD Sex Crimes and Detroit Receiving Hospital and support domestic violence and homicide survivors.
Survivors often need someone to explain what happens after a report, help with the Crime Victim Compensation claim and provide counseling at no cost. This program does that from inside the system.
The program's web page lists its address and 24/7 availability; the phone number comes from the Wayne County Prosecutor's resource list, so confirm it when you call. Services are free and confidential.
Focused on Detroit crime victims and their families; staff are counselors and advocates, not investigators, and do not file police reports for you.
