Emergency shelter on Detroit's west side for single women, women with children, families and men with children who have nowhere safe to stay.
Genesis House II is the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries' emergency shelter for families and women on West Chicago. DRMM is a faith-based nonprofit that has run shelters, treatment and housing in Detroit for over a century.
When DV shelters are full or a family does not fit their criteria, a safe emergency bed still matters. Genesis House II takes in women, children and fathers with children who would otherwise be on the street.
Call ahead to check bed availability. Because the address is public, people facing an active threat from an abuser should first call First Step or YWCA Interim House, whose locations are confidential.
A general homeless shelter, not a confidential domestic violence shelter; it serves families, women and men with children but is not designed for people being actively hunted by an abuser.
