Detroit Resources
Free civil legal services for people with low income, older adults and survivors of domestic violence, with Detroit and Dearborn offices and a phone intake line (CALL) for family, housing, consumer, benefits and expungement matters.
Lakeshore Legal Aid is a nonprofit law firm serving Southeast Michigan, with three Wayne County locations in Detroit and Dearborn plus a free legal hotline called CALL. Its lawyers handle family law, protection orders, housing, consumer debt, public benefits, guardianships and expungements.
It is one of the largest free civil law providers in the region, and the CALL line is the simplest way to be screened for help without first finding the right office. Many Detroit referral pages, including the Detroit Bar Association's, send people here.
New clients call 1-888-783-8190 during hotline hours or apply online through Michigan Legal Help. Detroit offices do not take walk-ins, so call ahead for an appointment; the Dearborn office has walk-in hours Monday through Thursday.
Civil cases only, for people with low income, older adults and survivors of abuse; it does not handle criminal defense or personal injury claims.
English; Spanish and Arabic call flyers available
