Detroit Resources
Free 24/7 helpline that connects people in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Lapeer and Washtenaw counties with housing, utility, food, health and other local help, including referrals to legal aid.
If someone is in immediate danger, call 911.
2-1-1 is a free, confidential helpline run by United Way for Southeastern Michigan. Trained advocates answer around the clock and point you to programs near you, from rent and utility help to food, health care and legal aid.
After an injury, arrest or job loss, the first problem is often not knowing where to start. One call to 2-1-1 can save hours of searching and connect you with several kinds of help at once.
2-1-1 gives referrals, not legal advice. Tell the advocate what county you live in and what you need, and ask them to name more than one option in case the first one has a waiting list.
Anyone can call; 2-1-1 gives information and referrals but does not provide lawyers or legal advice itself.
