Detroit Resources
Free immigration legal help for low-income immigrants in Michigan, including a Detroit office, a statewide intake line, a WhatsApp line and a separate information line for people in detention.
MIRC is Michigan's statewide immigration legal aid organization and keeps a Detroit office on Second Avenue. It represents immigrants, farmworkers and unaccompanied children, and also runs a line for people held in detention.
An injury case, an arrest or a workplace dispute can raise immigration questions that feel scary to ask. MIRC gives honest, free answers about your options and can tell you quickly whether it can take your case or where to turn.
Intake is by phone, not walk-in, and the main number is a 734 area code even for Detroit. Family members of someone detained should call the general line, not the detainee line. Have your documents nearby when you call.
A nonprofit legal aid program with limited capacity that screens cases by income and type; it cannot take every case and does not handle criminal defense or injury claims.
