Detroit Resources
State office that takes complaints about unpaid wages, minimum wage and overtime violations, illegal paycheck deductions, unpaid final pay and earned sick time under Michigan law.
The Wage and Hour Division is the state unit that enforces Michigan's wage, minimum wage, overtime and earned sick time laws. Its main office is in Lansing, with a Detroit office in the Cadillac Place state building.
If your employer did not pay you what you earned, a wage complaint is a free way to recover money without hiring a lawyer. The division can investigate and order payment.
Most complaints are filed online or by mail, and the office asks that you call the toll-free number before coming in person. Keep every pay record you have, since those documents drive the investigation.
Handles state wage law claims; complaints generally must be filed within 12 months of the violation, and the division does not handle federal-only claims or private contract disputes.
