Detroit Resources
Federal agency that protects the right of most private sector employees to organize, join a union or act together about pay and working conditions, and investigates unfair labor practice charges against employers or unions.
Region 7 is the NLRB's office for eastern Michigan, located in the McNamara Federal Building in downtown Detroit. Information officers there help the public understand and file charges and petitions.
If you were disciplined or fired for talking with coworkers about wages, safety or a union, the NLRB may be able to help even if you are not in a union. Its process is free and you do not need a lawyer to file.
You can file a charge online through the NLRB e-filing system or visit the office and ask for the Information Officer on duty. Act quickly, because the six-month filing window is firm.
Covers most private sector workers (not most government, agricultural or supervisory employees), and charges generally must be filed within six months of the alleged violation.
