Free civil legal help for Wayne County residents age 60 and older, plus elder abuse prevention education for seniors, caregivers and professionals.
The Elder Law and Advocacy Center is a program of Neighborhood Legal Services Michigan, a Detroit-based legal aid organization. It gives free civil legal services to older Wayne County residents and runs elder abuse prevention training.
Older adults facing financial exploitation, housing problems, benefits denials or pressure from a caregiver often cannot afford a lawyer. This center exists so age and income do not keep them from legal help.
Call the Redford center directly or the Detroit main office. Expect an intake screening for age and residency. Services are free, but capacity is limited so be ready to explain the urgency.
Only for Wayne County residents 60 or older and only civil matters; it does not handle criminal defense or personal injury claims.
