Advocacy

Detroit-based peer support groups and healing programs for survivors of sexual assault, centered on the African American experience but open to all.

What it is

SASHA Center is a Detroit nonprofit that offers culturally specific support groups and education for sexual assault survivors, with a focus on Black women and their communities.

Why it matters

Healing happens differently for everyone. For survivors who want a space that understands their culture and history, SASHA offers community and peer support that a hospital or courtroom cannot.

What to know first

Call or email to ask about the next group. For an assault in the last few days, contact Avalon Healing Center's 24/7 line first for medical care and evidence collection.

Limits and eligibility

Not a 24-hour crisis line and does not do forensic exams; groups are primarily for women, with some programming for men.

What to have ready

  • A phone number or email where you can be reached
  • Whether you want a group or one-on-one support
