Detroit Resources
Federal agency where workers file charges of job discrimination, harassment or retaliation based on race, sex, age, disability, religion, national origin, pregnancy or genetic information.
The EEOC enforces federal laws against workplace discrimination. Its Detroit Field Office in the McNamara Federal Building downtown serves eastern Michigan and handles intake interviews by phone, video or in person.
For most federal discrimination claims, you must file an EEOC charge before you can sue. Filing on time protects your rights and starts an official investigation at no cost to you.
Deadlines are strict, so start your inquiry through the online Public Portal as soon as possible. If you cannot use the portal because of a disability, call the 800 number for help.
Covers most employers with 15 or more employees (20 for age claims), and a charge generally must be filed within 300 days of the discriminatory act in Michigan.
