One call to the Connect Center reaches more than 80 programs: rent and utility help, water bills, property tax relief, food, housing counseling and support for people fleeing domestic violence.
Wayne Metro is the community action agency for Wayne County, with over 700 staff and more than 130,000 requests for help each year. Its Connect Center is a single front door to housing, utility, financial and family programs.
An injury or job loss often turns into a shut-off notice or missed rent within weeks. Wayne Metro can help with the bills while a legal matter works itself out, and its staff can screen you for programs you may not know exist.
Phone waits can be long during busy seasons, so email or web chat is also an option. Some help, like water assistance, is only open when funding is available, and energy assistance needs a pre-screen and an appointment.
Serves Wayne County residents, most programs are income based and some open and close with funding, so call to be screened.
