Detroit Resources
Free legal help for metro Detroit residents from supervised law students in clinics covering disability rights, asylum and immigration, appeals and post-conviction, small business and community groups, and legal advocacy for people with cancer.
Wayne State's law school in Midtown Detroit runs several live-client clinics in which students, supervised by faculty, represent people from the metro Detroit community. Current clinics include Disability Law, Asylum and Immigration, Appeal and Post-Conviction Advocacy, Business and Community Law, Community Advocacy and Legal Advocacy for People with Cancer.
The Disability Law Clinic in particular helps Detroit-area residents with civil rights, special education, health insurance, guardianship and Social Security disability matters at no charge, which are hard to find help for elsewhere.
Email lawclinics@wayne.edu or call (313) 577-4015 and name the clinic that fits your problem. Clinics are not open for walk-ins and may be between semesters, so ask when the next intake is.
Clinics take a limited number of cases that match their focus and the academic calendar; not all clinics are offered every semester and walk-ins are not accepted.
